and it too now shows the summary information that could not be seen before by right clicking on it, then on properties and on the summary tab.
#HOW TO MAKE PREVIEW DEFAULT JPG VIEWER IN MACBOOK WINDOWS#
I then tried another jpg file from my wife's Canon camera that would not open in Windows picture and fax viewer- opening it in Photoshop, saving it to the desktop etc. In particular one image that I had been unable to open in Windows picture and fax viewer now shows that it was made with a Casio camera so the summary information was clearly present all of the time, but just not visible when I clicked on the original summary tab. are of course identical, but now the summary file is present. I took one of the images that would not open in Windows picture and fax viewer, opened it in Photoshop and then saved it from Photoshop. Given the difference I described in my previous comment, I just conducted a simple experiment. In other words passing an image through Photoshop converts it from being unable to open to being able to open in Windows picture and fax viewer. As I said earlier all images open without difficulty in Photoshop and if I save an image from Photoshop that would not open in Windows picture and fax viewer, the saved image will then open in Windows picture and fax viewer. I followed your instructions but the problem remains exactly as it was before the edit. I will export the registry and try your suggestion. I will try the registry edit you give - but can't imagine how a registry entry would be discriminating between apparently identical jpeg images.Īgain thanks for the suggestion. All of them, without exception, open in Photoshop, but some will not open using Windows picture and fax viewer. Some have come from my Nikon camera, some have come from my wife's Canon camera, some have been received in e-mails, some have been screen captures by SnagIt. There is no consistency to when an image will open and when it will not, by which I mean the source of the images.

jpeg images are associated with the Windows picture and fax viewer on my machine, but there is something different about some of the images. I have also selected windows picture and fax viewer manually, but some still open and some show no preview available. I have of course right clicked on many of them in the course of troubleshooting and checked that in the "Open with" Windows picture and fax is highlighted - as it is in all cases. If i click on jpg images, some will open and some will not - returning the No preview available etc. I have jpg images in various places - on my desktop now in trying to troubleshoot this problem, in folders labeled Photos1 etc. The first part doesn't seem to apply to my problem.

Close Windows Explorer, and then try to view the picture again. When you receive a message that resembles the following, click OK:ĭllRegisterServer in C:\Windows\System32\shimgvw.dll succeeded.

Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\shimgvw.dll, and then click OK. Log on to the computer as an administrator. To resolve this problem, register the Shimgvw.dll file. If this doesn't help, you need to do a regedit. (Note: this isn't 'View' next to Edit- it's the 'little' word view right above the pictures. To do this, open the picture screen> click on arrow point to right of the word 'view' and choose Film Strip. You can also set up the pictures to view as a File Strip. If you set up folder first for the images, once you display the first image, you should be able to use the arrows at the bottom to scroll through them. Try doing a right click on an image> Open with> choose WP&FV.

So there are no folder in it holding pictures. Okay, first you should understand that Windows Picture and Fax viewer is just that> a viewer, nothing more.
